Administrator's Dream
This is a very well written book covering topics that are more advanced than the usual beginners book. Topics are covered very clearly, and are written in a manner that will help anyone in their progression of using and administrating Caldera OpenLinux. A natural order of progression is used, and the examples are written to show how the syntax of commands are used. This book actually covers topics beyond the subject, such as TCP/IP networking, bridged environments, routing protocols, packet structure and OSI models. A quite worthwhile investment, and a must have for anyone administrating Linux.

California Hot Rodder

Author: Jay Carnine
Average review score:

A must for all gearheads!
California Hot Rodder is a fantastic representation of what hot rodding is all about, long before the explotation and commercialization of America's most unique hobby. Jay grew up square in the middle of an era that allot of younger people can only imagine and wish they were a part of. He relates exciting and funny stories of racing, building cars with friends, and enjoying those cars with his family, while providing a excellent timeline of how the styles and trends of hot rods progressed over the years, interspersed with great technical information.

This book gives you the feel of sitting with your buddies in your garage gathered around your hot rod, late on a Saturday night, having a couple of beers, telling stories and benchracing.

Definatly buy it today!!!

A Call to Discernment
Published in Paperback by Harvest House Publishers, Inc. (August, 1987)
Author: Jay Edward Adams
Average review score:

EVERY THINKING CHRISTIAN SHOULD READ THIS BOOK
Unfortunately, there are probably very few who will try to track down a copy..... "When I stopped studying the Bible in order to support what I believed, and started studying it in order to learn what to believe, I realized how wrong I was". (Mike Bardon, Former Oneness Pentecostal) If you can relate in any way to this quote, regardless of which particular "christian craziness" you've repented from, this book is also for you! Mr.Adams once again presents an insightful view of the real state of today's "professing" church, and it's woeful lack of biblical discernment with regards to many of the unbiblical practices and teachings currently found within the "Christian" church. He clearly describes not only the problems and how they became so prevalent, but he also provides real solutions to those individuals who may ask "what difference can I make?" Geared towards those who honestly wish to be part of the solution rather than add to the problems, "A Call to Discernment" is a trumpet call which perhaps will only be heeded by the seeming minority - those folks who are dissatisfied with the current flavour of "Experiential-Touchy-Feely-Don't-Think-Just-Receive" Christianity. Many will be offended by this piece, but those who seek the truths of God Himself as revealed in His Word will be refreshed and almost relieved by Mr.Adams' book (Like Elijah, it's always good to know you're not alone!). It's a must read for anyone who has ever found themselves involved in beliefs and/or practices that originate way,way outside of scripture, and may be useful in the healing process if you've ever asked yourself the question "How on earth could I have fallen for that one or strayed so far from Truth?" This book is not just a call to be more Discerning, but gives practical relevant help on how to actually BE more discerning!

The Cambridge Eclipse Photography Guide : How and Where to Observe and Photography Solar and Lunar Eclipses
Published in Paperback by Cambridge University Press (November, 1993)
Authors: Jay M. Pasachoff and Michael A. Covington
Average review score:

Nice, short, and concise
This excellent guide was written by two of the most experienced professional eclipse speciallists in the world, so you are guaranteed to get highly useful knowledge that will help you a lot in your eclipse adventures.

One feature that I liked was its brevity. The authors go directly to the "meat". It is a thin book, but every paragraph contains a high dosis of information, nevertheless keeping a "light" non-boring style.

You will find its text, charts, and tables very useful, and its pictures lovely.

Funny, funny, funny. What surprised me most was finding out it was based on actual events (meaning that they did go on a camping trip). I enjoy everytime I listen to it.

THE DARK KNIGHT REVIEW
This is a beautiful story which I read when I was visiting Astoria, NY about 3 years ago. I have never forgotten the story and it's a book that I will never get tire of. It's a story about friendship, hope and love. I strongly recommend it: for children who will learn about friendship, love and hope as well as for adults: who needs a little reminder that it's still present in the world.

Catholic Revivalism: The American Experience, 1830-1900
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Notre Dame Pr (June, 1978)
Author: Jay P., Dolan
Average review score:

Despite oversights, this is a landmark monograph.
Throughout history, Protestants have always been viewed by cultural historians as embodying the emotional elements of religion. That is particularly true of evangelicals and their historical practice of revival. Dolan, however, shatters this long-standing attribute. In his book, Catholic Revivalism, Dolan describes the tradition in Catholic churches of the "parish mission." He shows that, while Protestants had some influence on the parish mission in the U.S., the two traditions developed separately. In fact, the Catholic "revival" is much older than the Protestant revival.

Dolan's scholarship is excellent. He supports his argument with evidence, and ties the "parish mission" movement into modern charismatic movements within Catholicism. He, however, gives Catholic revivalism too much credit in its development. He claims that it was a unique development, and ignores the vast influence that the American "millennial ideal" had on it. Catholics adopted Protestant hymns and Protestant rhetoric. Even Dolan cannot deny the participation of Catholic revivalists in the Protestant-dominated, temperance movement.

Over-all, Dolan's book provides the historian of American religion with a new way of examining 19th century revivalist instincts. It cut across American class and religious lines. Dolan, even with his oversights, makes this explicit, and his book will be a lasting source for researchers to use and debate.
